Several years into her religious studies Damary chose instead to manifest her devotion to God by working to alleviate pain and suffering in others. To that end she immigrated to the United States and obtained a degree in Bio-Psychology from Hunter College. While in college, Damary contributed to scientific research, presenting her findings across the United States, and ultimately co-publishing her work in several scientific Journals.
She began her career in Social Work, focusing on drug abuse and HIV and implementing programs on education, counseling, and treatment for expectant women infected with HIV. Later, in the Dominican Republic, Damary worked tirelessly to obtain free HIV screening and medication for at-risk mothers and infants. Under the sponsorship of the St. George University of Medicine, she traveled to Grenada to train nurses in HIV counseling and testing, the first such program on the island at that time.
She founded Guardians of Healing in 2008. To date, the organization has completed medical / dental missions to nine under-served communities in the Dominican Republic, where over 16,000 patients have been treated at no cost.
Damary wishes to continue her efforts to offer care to the lives of those less fortunate. Her leadership and compassion has allowed Guardians of Healing to succeed in its mission of charity.
